Ellwood City Area Historical Society awards scholarships

ELLWOOD CITY – Since 1999, the Ellwood City Area Historical Society has given out two scholarships a year – one for a senior student from Lincoln High School and one for a senior student from Riverside High School.

The one qualification is that the students must write a short essay on a piece of history from the Ellwood City area.

On Monday, the society gave out $1,500 scholarships to Emily Fox, of Riverside, and Mark VanHorn, of Lincoln.

Before Monday, the pair said they had never met. However, upon meeting, the pair realized there were some similarities between them.

Both are planning to attend Grove City College in the fall, and both wrote their essays on the exact same topic – the former Rock Point Park in Wayne Township.
