However, as footfall increases in Newcastle city center following the challenges of Covid, there are a number of roles up for grabs with major brands and businesses. Shops, bars and hotels are among the employers looking to take on staff ahead of what they expect will be a busy summer.

H&M sales advisor – Eldon Square
High street fashion chain H&M is looking to take on a full-time sales advisor to work in its Eldon Square store. The company, which prides itself on sustainability, says the ideal candidate must have a love for people and fashion.
The permanent position is for 35 hours a week and the successful applicant must be available to work five days from Monday to Sunday. The role will require excellent customer service skills and see sales assistants work as a team to create “an exceptional shopping experience in store.”
Successful candidates will be able to benefit from store discounts, paid sick leave and annual leave.
Levi’s stylist-Eldon Square
Iconic denim brand Levi’s is looking for a confident stylist to join the team in the Eldon Square store. The part-time position is for eight hours a week but overtime work is available.
The store is looking for a passionate stylist who can use their knowledge of Levi’s products to help customers select items that suit their needs. Those joining the team will undergo in-depth product knowledge training and sales techniques training.
Levi’s says the role will be “crucial” as part of the store’s success on a day-to-day basis.
Krispy Kreme retail team member -Eldon Square
No experience is needed for this role at the Krispy Kreme kiosk in Eldon Square as all training will be provided. Instead, candidates must have a great attitude to work and be a team player.
The part-time role will see the successful candidate serve Krispy Kreme’s donuts and beverages with “first-class customer service”. Candidates must be 18 or over to apply for the role due to lone working.
Successful applicants will be paid from £6.83 to £9.50 an hour and perks include free donuts as well as free tea and coffee. Employees also include discounts in some high street shops, including money off food shopping.
Bravissimo retail assistants- Eldon Square
Swimwear and lingerie store Bravissimo is looking for female retail assistants to join its team in Eldon Square – and no previous experience is necessary. Two jobs are on offer, one for 12 hours and one for 16 hours per week.
The roles are on a six-month fixed-term contract and pay £9.50 per hour. The store has stipulated that there is a genuine requirement that applicants must be women due to the nature of the job.
Training will be provided and successful candidates must have a passion for customer service and an eagerness to learn. The role will require working as a team to manage stock, operate the tills and provide bra fittings.
Greggs retail ream member – Newcastle
The Greggs branch on Penn Street Newcastle is looking for a new member of staff to join its team serving customers on weekends.
The permanent role will see the successful applicant work Saturdays and Sundays, between the hours of 5am and 6.30pm. Customer service experience is ideal but training will be provided.
Staff will be required to deliver fast and friendly service, prepare the much-loved Greggs products and keep the shop clean. The pay is £9.62 per hour or £8.18 per hour for those under 18.
Employees can also enjoy a staff discount of up to 50% off and paid holiday.
Hugo Boss sales associate – Fenwick
The Hugo Boss concession in Fenwick Newcastle is looking for a part-time sales associate to provide excellent customer service to shoppers. Successful candidates must have previous retail experience and be able to act as a brand ambassador for Hugo Boss.
Applicants must also have an understanding of the premium fashion industry and good communication skills.
Malmaison hotel housekeeper – Newcastle Quayside
The Malmaison hotel needs a housekeeper to clean its guest bedrooms.
The permanent role is for 30 hours per week, over five days, and will see the successful applicant work as part of the housekeeping team to ensure all bedrooms are kept clean and tidy on a daily basis. Experience isn’t essential, but the role will require a level of fitness and the ability to work with cleaning chemicals.
Applicants will also need to have conversational English and the ability to work on their own for periods of time. The salary is £10 per hour.
McDonald’s crew member – Northumberland Street
McDonald’s is looking for a new member of staff to work in its busy restaurant in Newcastle city centre.
The full-time role will see the successful applicant working on the tills, preparing food and serving customers. The chain wants to hire an energetic person who can work as part of a team and provide good customer service.
Cuban Revolution bar staff – Newcastle
Revolution of Cuba in the Cloth Market is looking to take on a number of full-time and part-time bar staff. The permanent roles will see staff working behind the bar for up to 45 hours a week after undergoing training.
Applicants must be available to work day and night shifts on week days, weekends and Bank Holidays. Perks include 50% discount at all Revolution and Revolution de Cuba sites nationwide and the opportunity to progress into a management role.
