Star Trek: Strange New Worlds star Rebecca Romijn’s father-in-law helped get the word out about the premiere of the Paramount+ series.
Romijn shared a photo on Twitter of her father-in-law standing next to a subway advertisement for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. “This is my father-in-law,” she wrote. “He stood in this subway station for three hours and told anyone who passed that [Strange New Worlds] starts NEXT Thurs and his daughter-in-law serves on THE Enterprise.”
Romijn stars as Una Chin-Riley, or Number One, on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. which premiered on Paramount+ on May 5. She first appeared as the character in three episodes of the second season of Star Trek Discovery, “An Obol of Charon,” “Such Sweet Sorrow” and “Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2.” Romijn reprized the role for two episodes of Star Trek: Short Treksand again for Strange New Worlds.
Strange New Worlds is both a spinoff of Star Trek Discovery and a prequel to Star Trek: The Original Seriesbased on the years that Captain Christopher Pike helmed the USS Enterprise before James T. Kirk took his seat in the captain’s chair. Paul Wesley will join the series in Season 2 as Captain Kirk. This will make Wesley the third actor to play Captain Kirk, a role originated by William Shatner in the 1960s with Star Trek: The Original Series. Chris Pine then took on the role for the 2009 star trek film and its subsequent sequels.
Anson Mount reprised his role as Captain Pike from Star Trek Discoveryalong with co-stars Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Mr. Spock. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premiered on Paramount+ in May and has already been renewed for a second season, which is currently in production in Toronto.
Strange New Worlds, which released its first trailer in March, will also star Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel, Celia Rose Gooding as a young Cadet Nyota Uhura, Melissa Navia as Lt. Erica Ortegas and Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M’Benga. The series marks the fifth new star trek show since 2017, as Paramount continues to expand the franchise for its new streaming service. This includes Discoverycurrently in its fourth season, Star Trek: Picardas well as two animated spinoffs, Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Prodigy.
New episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 1 airs every Thursday on Paramount+.
