Grudge of Edinburg Debuts New Character Art, Premiere Window

Netflix unveils a first look at Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh, the two-part movie series that focuses on the son of Meliodas and Elizabeth.

Netflix revealed new art from its upcoming two-part anime movie series, Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh.

The new art shows off some production sketches of the characters that will appear in the movie, including its main protagonist, Tristan Liones, who is the young son of the original Seven Deadly Sins‘central leads, Meliodas and Elizabeth. The movies will be directed by Bob Shirohata, who previously served as an episode director and storyboard artist on the anime series’ third season. Noriyuki Abe, a shonen anime veteran who has worked on hits such as Yuyu Hakusho, bleach and Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, will be the supervising director on the project. The first part of the movie series is scheduled to premiere in December 2022.

The new movie is set in between the conclusion of the original series and the start of its sequel manga, Four Horseman of the Apocalypse. An older version of Tristan plays a key role in the sequel series, which was recently announced to also be receiving an anime adaptation. The sequel also features the son of Meliodas’ best friend Ban, named Lancelot, who assists the new protagonist, Percival, a young man who is prophesied to eventually become one of the four knights who brings about the end of the world. Hunted by the knights of Camelot for something he hasn’t even done yet, Percival sets out to find the other figures in the prophecy and unravel the mystery behind his apparent destiny.

original Seven Deadly Sins anime premiered in 2014. The first two seasons of the show and the series’ first movie were produced by A-1 Pictures, the studio behind hit series such as Sword Art Online, 86: Eighty Six and Kaguya-sama: Love is War. Production on all of the following animated entries in the series were produced by Studio Deen (Ranma 1/2, Sasaki and Miyano).

Seven Deadly Sins was created by Nakaba Suzuki and first published in 2012. The series tells the story of the titular Order of the Seven Deadly Sins, a group of powerful knights who each represent one of the Biblical seven deadly sins, who are framed for plotting a coup in the Liones Kingdom. The series was praised for its new take on traditional medieval fantasy tropes. The original anime adaptation is still available for streaming on Netflix, while the manga is available in English from Kodansha USA.

While Netflix has confirmed that it will stream Grudge of Edinburghan announcement regarding the international release of the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse anime has yet to be made.
